An Atlantic drift to the shores of Essaouira, with camel trekking on Morocco’s Atlantic coast to the rhythm of the tides and winds.

Morocco’s Atlantic coast offers beautiful, unspoilt natural shores for an invigorating camel trek between the foothills of the Moroccan Atlas, planted with argan trees, and the Atlantic coastal dunes, with camels carrying the luggage.

Tour Details

With landscapes that vary from day to day: fine sandy beaches, discreet coves, small fishing villages, limestone hills planted with argan trees overlooking the ocean follow one another on this coastal hike along the shores of Essaouira…..Dunes too, as if the Sahara plunged into the sea!

Itinerary

Day 1Marrakesh

On arrival in Marrakech, you’ll be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel in the city center, 20 minutes from the medina. This first day will gently immerse you in the atmosphere of the red city. Dinner and overnight stay

(airport/hotel transfer) (meals on your own) (overnight in 3* hotel)

Day 2The Atlantic coast

Departure for the Atlantic coast. The road leads through numerous argan forests to the village of Timzguida Ouftass. Check-in at Mohamed’s gite and 2-hour walk in the argan forest, where you can see goats grazing on the treetops.

(260kms/4H) (2H walk with picnic) (Dinner and overnight in locals stay)

Day 3The bay of Tafedna

We start our walk inland through hills covered with argan trees, passing through a succession of douars belonging to the Berber Haha tribe, who live from their crops (wheat, barley, argan) and goat rearing. Lunch in the shade of the trees before reaching our gite in Tafedna, an ancient Portuguese anchorage nestled at the end of a cove overlooked by cliffs planted with argan trees.
For 4 km, the bay of Tafedna offers a fine sandy beach with typical fishermen’s cottages and numerous blue boats. The area is famous for deep-sea fishing. Dinner and overnight stay

(4 to 5 h walk. Lodging with local people. Meals included: morning, noon, evening)

Day 4Between cliffs and desert beaches

A beautiful day’s hike between cliffs overlooking the ocean and almost deserted beaches to Sidi Ahmed Assayh, one of the most beautiful wild beaches on the Atlantic coast. Swimming is possible, but take care here as the ocean is often rough. Overnight in a gite

(4 to 5 h walk with picnic) (Dinner and overnight stay in local gite)

Day 5The dunes of Sidi Mbarek

Departure from the village of Iften, where fishermen repair their nets in the shelter of a rocky headland, amidst traps, pots and longlines. We follow the ocean from ledge to ledge to the marabout of Sidi Mbarek, overlooking freshwater cascades. It’s a day of wild beaches, cliffs overlooking the ocean and freshwater cascades bordered by an immense sand dune, as if the desert were plunging into the sea.
In the past, Sidi Mbarek was a stopover for caravans carrying goods bought in Africa to the port of Essaouira. Before returning to the city, the caravans would stay in quarantine around the waterfall, where fresh water, greenery, vegetable crops and the sea provided them with the necessary sustenance.

(4 h walk with picnic) (Dinner and overnight stay in a local stay)

Day 6 The Sidi Kaouki marabout and Essaouira

Today, a beautiful walk awaits you along an immense wild beach of fine sand to the village of Sidi Kaouki and its white marabout facing the ocean. Final picnic with the team before heading for Essaouira, the beautiful Mogador. Check-in at your riad.

(3h30 to 4h walk with picnic) (Dinner on your own. Night in riad**)

Day 7 Essaouira - Marrakech

Free morning to discover the city of the trade winds, its traditional port and its medina. Stroll through the white and blue alleyways, where small shady squares await you for a mint tea. In the medina, don’t miss the small indoor markets on both sides of Rue Mohammed Zerktouni. Lunch at leisure

Return to Marrakech in the early afternoon. Check-in at your hotel. Dinner on your own. Night at your hotel

(lunch at leisure) (180kms/ 3H) (Dinner at leisure and overnight at hotel ***)
